Engine Masters Challenge is sponsored by AMSOIL, Presented by HOT ROD, and Operated by the University of Northwestern Ohio.
Small-Block
Scott Main and team MPG Heads took the podium in the Small-Block class with their 404ci Ford. The Cleveland-headed mill averaged 578.8 lb-ft and 606.3 horsepower. Topping the motor was a borrowed carb that is–by now–back atop the street-driven Nova it came off of.
Vintage
Ted Eaton’s thoroughly reworked Mercury Y-block churned out peaks of 597.3 horsepower and 565.5 lb-ft of torque – a far cry from what the original designers ever could have thought possible – to take the Vintage Class win. Did we mention it has stock-style, vertically stacked intake ports.
Big-Block Spec
The big-block spec class calls for an Edelbrock Performer RPM cylinder head and a maximum displacement of 470ci. With all entries using the same top end, competition was tough. However, that didn’t stop Joe Carroll’s 468ci big-block Chevy from coming out on top!
Nitrous
It was the School of Automotive Machinists (SAM) that took the top honors in the newly added Nitrous class of Engine Masters 2016. Lead by Zach Nelson, the team’s laughing-gas-fed LS mill churned out massive numbers, taking the win and also the Torque Monster and Horsepower King accolades as well.
