The winner of “America’s Most Beautiful Roadster” is…
For many, the Grand National Roadster Show at the Fairplex in Pomona California, is the ultimate car show. The most prestigious builders, fabricators, artists, and restoration specialists come together to show off some of the finest examples of classic Americana on wheels. The show encompasses all genres of the classic car hobby. Customs, restorations, muscle cars, trucks, hot rods, street machines, and the Rolling Bones vintage vehicles are all on display.
The “America’s Most Beautiful Roadster” award is one of highest honors gifted to a builder, and the only place to get it, is at GNRS. Being that “roadster” is in the title, the only types of cars that can win it have open tops. This year, the award went to a 1931 Ford owned by Dave Martin and built at Hot Rods & Hobbies in Signal Hill, California.
Given this incredible honor, it’s hard to believe that this car used to be a bare-metal racecar that was recently driven in the iconic Silver State Classic open road race. Because the car has racing in its core, elements like the 500hp small-block built by Ed Pink Racing Engines remains under the hood.
“This Ford Roadster possesses all the qualities that our judges look for, truly blowing us away thanks to its exceptional craftsmanship and innovative styling,” said owner of Rod Shows (producer of the Grand National Roadster Show), John Buck.
Other spectacles of the show were the “TV” Tommy Ivo dragster brought out by the Road Kings Car Club, and celebrity guests like Troy Trepanier, Roy Brizio, Steve Strope ,and Bobby Alloway.
There were a handful of other winners in different categories at the show as well.
Al Slonaker Memorial Award: 1929 Ford Model A
George Barris Kustom d’ Elegnace Award: 1950 Mercury
Blackie Gejeian Award: 1937 Lincoln LeBaron
