The 2017 LA Roadster Show & Swap is a Father’s Day tradition and has been so for the past 53 years and beginning around 1980 it’s been held at the Pomona Fairplex. Originally it was a single day event but after a year or two at the Fairplex the popularity of the show dictated that it grow to two days instead of one. It’s the 60th anniversary of the LA Roadster club but the 53rd anniversary of the show.

For years everyone paid attention to the roadsters within the show and not what was going on in the outside parking lot. For years, even decades, all of those “other” neat hot rods where ignored nothing spiteful just there were, and are, plenty of other events that shower handfuls of recognition unto the “enclosed” crowd. This weekend was and is all about roadsters and well it should be especially since the host is the Los Angles Roadster Club located here in the southland.

About 10 years ago it was becoming apparent that there was one hell of a car show taking place in the parking lot. So much so that many hot rodders spent the day with their cars and trucks in the parking lot never visiting the roadster show itself!

It finally became apparent that the “roof” loving hot rodder shouldn’t be ignored but how to bring them into the show was the eternal question? Well, the roof-toppers are now accepted as part of the LA Roadster Show…interestingly they still have their own parking lot. What we now have are two distinct shows in one…a show for open cars and trucks and a show for closed cars and trucks. Of course, there’re still many who come and set up for the weekend in the preferred parking section and never do make it into the roadster portion of the show but all is good and everyone seems to be enjoying themselves.

Typically there are 300-400 roadsters and a like number, some years a bit more, relegated to the preferred parking section. If you like hot rods there is no question you will get your fix of closed cars, customs, trucks, and every other manner of hot rod. The preferred parking section may be a show within a show but it is one hell of a show.
