One of the bigger draws at the Sacramento Autorama the last few years has been the Suede Pavilion, the sister show feature to the Grand National Roadster Show’s successful Suede Palace.

The 2017 Sacramento Autorama’s Suede Pavilion feature vehicles have kept of the standard of late—not so much “suede”, more so a nice array of hot rods and customs built in the proper “tradition”, which includes everything from Brett Cowan’s “Devil’s Lettuce” ’49 Chevy to Tony Gomes’ in-process restoration of “The Capri” Shoebox Ford, Richard Gregg’s original 1950s custom. Along with the cars, there’s a constant stream of DJ’d era-appropriate tunes as well as various live music, a pinup girl contest, and the Suede Pavilion awards ceremony at 6pm.

Despite the howling winds that literally shook the tented-roof building housing the Pavilion vehicles on Friday (which seemed to have little effect on the crowds filling the aisles all day, the weather today is much more participant-friendly, and we’re keeping our fingers crossed it remains that way on through 9pm tonight when the show closes.
