In short track racing lingo the term “technology” usually is met with mixed emotions. Most know that it is necessary for the sport to evolve, but many are afraid of the dollar signs attached to making changes or having access to new technologies.
Those at the SoVa Motion Research Labs are working to give cost-effective access to new technologies and information to the short track racer. The means of doing that is a seminar and tour of the SoVa Motion Research Labs and the National Tire Research Center (NTRC). The seminar is scheduled for Saturday, March 4 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Hosted by former NASCAR Crew Chief Keith Montgomery, the seminar will show how SoVa, in conjunction with the Global Center for Automotive Performance Simulation (GCAPS), is working to bring high-level racing technology to the short track world without a large price tag. Montgomery says many of the technologies at SoVa had only been available to high-level racers. However, because of the advancements and efforts of SoVa, those technologies can be shared with short track racers.
SoVa and GCAPS – affiliated companies of Virginia Tech University – have many options available for advanced technology including a pull down and an eight-post rig.
“The goal of this seminar is for each participant to leave with an understanding of how high-level race technology can be user friendly and affordable for dirt or asphalt racing,” Montgomery said. “The pull down and eight-post rigs will be used for demonstration and training.”
Some of the technologies that will be explored will be:
• Vehicle Instrumentation – SoVa will show the ease of installing a data system and what its advantages are.
• Data Analysis – SoVa will demonstrate how the use of an easy, affordable data analysis tool can help track performance.
• Pull Down Simulation – SoVa will present the advantages of a pull-down rig when developing bump stop packages.
• 8-Post Simulation – SoVa will show how the 8-post rig can result in better performance at the track and on race day.
Pricing for the seminar begins at $350. SoVa Motion is also offering a bundle option that includes the Seminar and a SoVaDAT annual license for only $500.
