April is Muscle Car Review’s annual Paint & Body issue. This year we have a mix of stories for the do-it-yourselfers and the do-it-for-me readers out there.
For those in the latter camp we interviewed several muscle car painters (Bob Perkins of Bob Perkins Restorations, Jason White of Jason White Restorations, and Ken Maisano of MASCAR Classics) to get their tips and advice on how to hire a painter and work with a paint shop. We have all heard horror stories of cars disappearing into paint shop purgatory for months or even years, with no work done. This story should help our readers avoid that mistake.
For the hands-on readers we have two bodywork-related tech articles. One is on media blasting using lumps of coal—seriously! The other is about restoring stainless-steel trim pieces that can be so hard to replace.
Also in the April issue are two barn-find-related stories. One is coverage of the Barn Finds & Hidden Gems area of the 2016 Muscle Car and Corvette Nationals. The other is about two Mopar aero warriors—a Charger 500 and Superbird—that have been stashed in a hay barn for years.
Feature cars in the April issue include an eye-grabbing (and fully loaded) 1970 Torino GT with a 429 Super Cobra Jet, and a different kind of L79-powered 1965 Chevelle that still belongs to its original owner—and is still making dragstrip runs to this day.
We round out the April issue with a cautionary tale about a burned-up 428 Galaxie and the second half of our Muscle Car Glossary.
