Slingshots are rad — there’s no way around that fact. And, like everything else from our childhood, rebuilding an overkill version as an adult is never a bad idea. Jimmy Diresta, a New York-based fabricator and tinkerer, built this massive slingshot out of a scrap metal, spare hardware, some surgical tube, and few wrenches in his shop. With a hack saw, sander, band saw and welder were used to bring it all together, and a monster trigger-fired slingshot was born.
There’s a lot of neat fabrication techniques to study, like the multi-wrench-link trigger system — and you could build your own version on a good weekend. Thinking about tools differently is how you create those cool tool-inspired details you see on some hot rods and customs, and a few weekends of junkyard surfing can amass more cheap wrenches than you could ever need.
